Oscar Piastri has strengthened his grip on the 2025 Formula 1 championship after three race victories in a row, giving him a total of four wins from the first six races. But don’t let that statistic deceive you: the year looks set to produce a fierce title fight, with Lando Norris looking to retake his early-season position at the top of the table, and Max Verstappen aiming to topple both drivers.
Norris and Verstappen have one race win apiece, along with a strong set of podium results, and with 32 points separating the top three, one race weekend could alter the picture at the top of the table.
Others can hope to bridge the gap too: George Russell has been amassing points with three podium finishes so far and still has time to claw back the 38 point gap to Piastri. Lewis Hamilton is the only other driver to taste victory this year — in the Chinese Grand Prix sprint — but Ferrari will need to fix its intermittent form if it’s to have any prospect of mounting a championship challenge.
Behind them, we look to be seeing a resurgence in form at Williams and Racing Bulls; the emergence of impressive talent among the F1 rookies; and continuing struggles at Red Bull to find a team-mate who can match Verstappen.
The scene is set for a thrilling, unpredictable season. Will it be a true classic?
